R.I.P. Sister Rita

The remains of our sister Rita Awour Ojunge was finally given to the family for burial. She was laid to rest on the 14. Dezember 2019.

Rita repeatedly reported sexual harassment in the Hohenleipisch refugee camp, she was living in. But no step were taking. On the 7. April 2019 she was reported missing. It took almost three months for her remains to be found 200 metres away from the camp in the forest. Rita was 32 years old. She left behind two small children.

Women in Exile & Friends is among the family, friends and other organisations demanding to know: why did it took the police so long to find Rita`s remains? Who murdered her? How safe are the camps for women and children if reported sexual harassment has no consequences? Why has the camp in the wood near by Hohenleipisch not been closed, although the residents wrote an open letter to the authorities demanding it`s closure?!

Our fight for „Justice for Rita“ and „No Lager for women and children“, „ Abolish all Lagers!“ continues.

Dear Sister Rita: rest in power, rest in peace!
