As a reaction, the World Bank and western countries such as the US and the Netherlands have announced to freeze their financial aid to the state of Uganda. This reinforces the broad idea in Ugandan society, that LGBTI rights are a damaging export product of western imperialism. Meanwhile the German state keeps rejecting the big majority of refugees that apply for asylum because of persecution based on sexual orientation.
What are the new grades of persecution within this law and what is the context and history of it? What has been the situation until now for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersexual people, on a legal level and on the level of society? And how has it been before the British colonization?
These and other questions we would like to discuss with three refugees from Uganda, together with an activist of the “International Women Space” (IWS).
When: Wednesday, March 26th, 7pm
Where: SO36

SOLIDARITY
——————–
